Good morning and Happy Mother’s Day! I’m hoping for some sunshine-filled days this
week as we look to accomplish the following:
We are traveling to our final destination on our
trip around the world. We’ll be visiting
the large continent of Asia! There is
lots in store as we explore this continent and get to know the
countries, landforms, and landmarks most famous to this are of the world.
The children will be having their last day of
country research this week and will spend their writing blocks completing their
paragraphs. All of the paragraphs will
be combined with a few other pages of information and turned into a book in the
next few weeks.
In math we will continue with our final unit of
study, Unit 9- Equal Shares and Whole Number Operations. On Monday and Tuesday we’ll be exploring an
open response problem related to sharing muffins with a group of children. The children will have to figure out how to
partition the muffins in order for everyone to get an equal share. We will also begin looking at Fractional
Units of Length. We’ll discuss how to
record measurements that are between two whole units.
Our reading groups continue to go well. We are enjoying meeting with our groups on a
consistent basis and reviewing many of the skills we’ve learned throughout the
year. Over the past two weeks the
children have had the opportunity to read several books at their instructional
level to practice such skills as: reading fluently and with expression,
retelling a story, and making connections.
Before we know it, it will be time for end of year reading assessments!
Here are a few reminders for the upcoming week:
Tuesday, May 10th- 2nd Grade School Store
Wednesday, May 11th- Mountains and Rivers Study Guide sent home
Thursday, May 12th- Safe Routes to School Program (rescheduled from last week)
